Action words put that extra special oomph in your pursuit to write a quality CV. These specific action words are what create real impact and lay down the foundations from which the employer will decide whether or not to continue to read your CV. Note from the list below that the action words are all written in the past tense (power phrases are different). The simple reason behind this is because it gives a sense of something having been done or completed. If you use the present tense i.e. “creating” it doesn’t sound as complete as “created” and isn’t therefore as powerful. In other words it sounds more like you have “achieved” something which would be far more impressive to an employer.
The following are examples of action words which give the reader the impression that you are a high achiever – a go getter who is in complete control of his life. Don’t try to use them all at once but they will help to offer some ideas for a more dynamic CV.
