Team working & Leadership

  • During my placement at Jacobs Hardware Store I worked as part of a team in the sales department, sometimes under great pressure. Here flexibility and initiative were essential.
  • Built team spirit as a team leader and then duty manager at ABS bank by ensuring staff were supported so that sales targets were achieved.
  • Working as telesales team leader for G T Finances Ltd meant I had to work under immense pressure to meet and exceed weekly targets whilst motivating a team of 5 to achieve their own sales targets. Arranged staff away days and implemented bonus scheme to motivate staff to meet sales targets.

Communication skills

  • At school I was a member of the after school Math’s club which consisted of 20 members. Due to my confidence and innovative ideas I was soon appointed deputy chair.
  • The opportunity allowed me to speak to the group about my ideas and opinions on various matters and has given me the confidence to express myself clearly and confidently in a group situation.
  • I chaired regular weekly meetings, produced minutes of the meetings and designed various promotional materials.

Sales Management

  • Trained and motivated a team of 200+ sales staff, organised holiday, covered sickness and absences and devised staff rotas.
  • Attended monthly meetings with regional sales managers and produced reports to show that sales targets were met in line with company objectives.
  • Introduced a new incentive scheme for staff which resulted in sales growth from 30% to 50% of overall company revenue.
  • Received the Shining Star Sales award for the year 2011 & 2012 for best performing sales manager.

Time Management skills

  • Whilst at school I worked part time at the local supermarket in order to earn an extra income. I worked mainly weekends but did work additional hours when I was asked to do so.
  • Despite the demands of my part time job I was still able to juggle my school work with my job. As well as handing my assignments and course work on time I was also able to meet and stick to tight deadlines at work. My ability to strike a balance between my academic life and work life earned me a top student award at school.

Customer Service Skills

  • During the summer holidays I worked at a hardware store where I held a front line position dealing with customers directly. My day to day duties involved serving customers, dealing with returns and advising customers about the range of products on offer I have completed an OCR level 2 in customer care and I am currently in the process of completing a course in conflict resolution.
  • Twice won employee of the month for outstanding achievement.

Computer Skills

  • Completed ECDL course at Bingley Technology College during the evenings. The course has enhanced my knowledge and practical use of various Microsoft Office applications including Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel. I can confidently create databases and spreadsheets.
  • Regular user of the internet for research purposes and social interaction. I have also designed a basic web page to promote my weekend gardening business.
  • OCR level 1 Web designing for dummies.


  • Increased sales by 25% resulting in a £200,000 profit increase.
  • Trained new and existing staff in various methods to increase sales skills to improve product sale.
  • Ordered new stock and designed shop floor in a meticulous way in order to promote new designs and sales items.
  • Assisted the sales manager in organising advertising campaigns regionally and locally.

Organisational Skills

  • Responsible for organising outings and activities at the home where I work as a volunteer. This involves negotiating what is possible, liaising with staff, planning each outing, organising other volunteers to help, ordering the minibus and leading the group.
