What to do after the interview
- Before you leave the interview room, make sure you understand the employer’s next step in the recruitment process. At the risk of stating the obvious, don’t ask the interviewer about your performance or how you did in the interview.
- When the interview ends, offer the interviewer a firm handshake. Make sure your goodbye handshake is just as confident now as it was when you first went in. Maintain eye contact until you leave the room and depart with a smile.
- Write a thank you letter or a thank you email to the interviewer following the conclusion of the interview. A thank you letter/email won’t do your chances any harm rather it will show the employer your commitment and interest in the job.
- Finally, whether you are successful or not, get some feedback on your performance. Use the feedback, regardless of whether it’s positive or negative to improve your performance in future interviews. Remember, what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.
